Heroes are the core foundation of the BLOCKLORDS ecosystem. They are used to boost your[ squads,](/game-mechanics/squads.md) claim regions, fight battles, and to carry on your legacy in the dynasty system. \
\
Each player will begin the game with their own BLOCKLORDS Hero. Each Hero is one-of-a-kind—just like you! Unless you already own a character, you’ll start with a basic [Farmer Hero](/economy/assets/heroes/basic-heroes/farmers.md) with their own randomly generated[ stats](/game-mechanics/heroes/hero-attributes.md) and [traits.](/game-mechanics/heroes/hero-traits.md) As you progress in the game, you’ll have the opportunity to make new choices, evolve your character, and ultimately determine your Hero’s path.

Your role directly affects what gameplay choices are available to you and how you interact with others. These roles can range from gathering [resources](/economy/resources.md) as a Farmer, pillaging resources as a[ Raider](/game-mechanics/fighting/raiding.md), earning a salary as a [Knight](/game-mechanics/squads/squad-types/battle-squads.md), ruling the land as a[ Ruler](/game-mechanics/ruling.md), or even achieving rulership as a King or Queen over other players.

Depending on your efforts and in-game skill, your Hero’s value will directly correlate with the utility that it has within BLOCKLORDS’ asymmetrical economy. After all, your time is valuable and so are your Heroes! This player-owned economy is enabled by web3 technology, and offers a much more fair and innovative way to reward players—a world-first for grand strategy MMOs.
